Athens Marathon The first marathon in the world, this race is in honor of the messenger who ran from the town of Marathon to Athens to advise that the Greek army had beat the Persians during the Battle of Marathon in 490 B.C. The main race spans 42 km although there are shorter alternate marathons that can also be run.
Santa's Neighborhood A wonderful event for children, Santa's Neighborhood welcomes the Christmas season each year in Syntagma Square. Santa, or Saint Basil as he is known to the Greeks, walks the square while vendors offer treats to all who attend.
Rethymno Carnival Celebrate carnival style in Rethymno! See showcases of Greek culture such as art, theater and dance as well as customs, games and activities. The weeks leading up to the grand parade are filled with fancy balls, parties, and live sketches.
Carnival & Clean Monday Dancing, concerts, costume parties, and all kinds of street performers can be found the weekend before Lent in Athens. You can also eat traditional Greek food, learn more about the culture, and experience fun times!
